The quality care that veterans receive at VA hospitals is under attack. Congress created the Commission on Care to recommend ways to improve the VA, but stacked the deck against veterans by appointing CEO’s of private for-profit hospitals to the commission. They are writing a report which will likely recommend privatizing the VA. Privatizing the VA would be a disaster – millions of veterans rely on the expert care and quality union workers at the VA. Private hospitals are not trained to deal with many specific health needs of veterans and would not be able to handle the large backlog that would result in dumping veterans on the private sector. The only people who would benefit from privatizing the VA are the CEO’s of for-profit hospitals.
Which is why VA employees are working with veterans groups to stand up and speak out against any sort of privatization scheme.
